Hello,, very hard decision, I believe every young child should be with their Mother, but they should have approx. equal time with their Father. After the child reaches school age, there should be shared parenting no matter what! The child needs to be made aware of each families attributes toward emotional security, and the sense of being loved by both sides of the family. My 12 year old son has been brainwashed into thinking Dad mean's nothing but a check to his Mother. He refuses to visit and has not called for 4 months,, after spending every weekend with him for the last few years because his mom wanted to party, this is very hard to understand, and the State Of OHIO cares less about family then the commies in china.

If you are of age to choose - then set up a schedule that is best for you. You might want 60% or 70% with one parent or 50-50. Consider where your friends are and which parent is most likely to support your goals. It's great if you can have some contact with both parents - it will decrease tension overall. But do what is in your best interest.

I know this might sound difficult, but you still need to know some facts:
* who is staying in the same school district so you can still go to the same school... or is someone moving to the area of an "upgrade" school.
* if you are a guy, it might be better to spend more time with your dad, providing he will be there for you.
* who is going to be a little more available to you as a parent... for example, your mom may be in the mode of reinventing herself and getting her career on track... so she might actually do better if she is not encumbered with family to look after.
Either way, your main focus is to be harmonious and to support both of your parents.
Tell both that you love them often.
