Your girls are old enough that you don't have to worry so much now. My daughter is two and drinks 2 cups of milk some days and 4 cups another day. She also loves yogurt, which is good for her also. I try to give her a Flintstones multivitamin too. As long as they are eating healthy well balanced meals, an extra cup of milk or lack of a cup of milk here and there isn't going to make much of a difference. Congrats on being a concerned mom!

Well a 2 year old should be getting 16 to 24 oz of milk a day, so 3 maybe 4 cups for her. I don't know about the 4 year old.

24 ounces of milk per day per child, minimum. Milk is an essential source of protein, calcium, and other nutrients for young children, and whole milk or 2 % is better for them at that age. If you have to cut out something, cut out the juice, it is mostly sugar water-look for corn syrup on the label; but even 100% juice is quite sweet. It's better to give them a piece of fruit than a cup of juice. I'm glad you're giving them water as well.

I personally think they should have as much as they want but not to much that it makes them sick. PLUS as long as you are not going through gallons of milk. lol
My kids are now 11, 7 1/2 & 5. I never forced milk on my children but I would at least encourage them to drink it. I didn't like milk as a child and hated it when my grandmother would MAKE me drink it.
Also remember a toddler will need more milk than a preschooler. My midwife told me this interesting fact though: Humans are the only mammals that drink milk after they are babies. Of course we also drink coke and juice unlike mammals. lol The point is don't think you need to force your child to drink milk. They can get the vit.'s they get from milk other ways with cheese, yogurt and stuff like that.

My doctor told me that my son (who is 2 years and three months) should only be having just three small sippy cups worth of low fat milk a day. Not that much-like maybe 1.5 cups or so? Is a small sippy a whole cup? I don't think it's that much. But not like a huge toddler sippy-a smaller one.

That is plenty of milk if they are having other calcium rich foods as well. If not maybe try giving them cheese or yogurt as a snack or a milk drink with their snacks.

My Health Teacher (College) told us Milk is unessescary after they are finished breast feeding and that humans were not meant to digest milk and even Soy milk is not good for us. Have them drink water. Even Juice is not great for us.

I think that is the right amount. Too much milk will give them too many calories and fill them up so they won't eat at much.
