I've had several birds in my lifetime of 38 years. Many parakeets, doves, etc. I remember my parakeet Jake the best. He and I would whistle at one another and dance together. He was so funny. I went to college and left him with my parents and younger sister to care for him. He died within a week or two of me being gone. They tried to play with him but he just gave up. I was so sad when they told me...

I now have an Umbrella Cockatoo that sings and dances to get her 'papa's attention, makes ugly remarks about ugly girls, intimidates and chases the dog who then chases her, goes out with me at night to "Look, look" for the moon, hollers at me to "Wake up, wake up, wakeup!!" if I take a quick snooze - just to name the beginning of her antics. She is spoiled wrotten and loved dearly. She also loves our 3 1/2 year old to death and rubs on her arm and tells her to "Give Sophie loving". She is 9 years old.
We also have a Timneh African Grey that refuses to use the bathroom in his cage. He will hold until he comes out and drops it on the paper under his cage. He whistles tunes from movies (he was an abused bird that we adopted so he never learned to talk, but after almost 8 years he is now singing some words to me). The vet judges him because of his gout and arthritic legs to be about 25 years old.
To finish it up we have a 17 year old cockatiel that was my grandmothers until she died. She had never been handled or out of her cage until 3 years ago. Now she talks and sits on my shoulder although my fingers still get bitten periodically so I know who is boss.

I've had about eight parakeets, and two parrots. But I really want a cockatoo, Amazon parrot and a cockatiel...There are a few others that I want, but I won't over do it. :) Birds bring such a warm peaceful atmosphere to a home..:)
