Christians who I meet in real life, or I have conversations without talking about religion always are completely taken aback and surprised when I say I'm not Christian.
Many have said

What does that mean to talk/act like a Christian (from a Christian point of view) ? Especially when I am not?

I'm in the same predicament...people are always taken aback when I say "Hey...not Christan here...I'm atheist" they look at me like I'm about to sprout bat wings and fly away (which admittedly, would be pretty cool.) The thing is, Christianity is the norm...so when you say you're not of the norm, when you act like the norm (when you ARE part of the "norm") people tend to wonder what you really are. Like...if you saw someone who looked like a person, talked like a person, etc. and he showed you proof he was an E.T. how would you react? (Just a rhetorical question) People think that atheist, or whatever means that you're mad at God and are evil, nasty, immoral bigots or whatever, when most of us are more "Christ-like" than they are...sad isn't it?

"The Sudan and those people are fighting back." The Sudan and those people? You do know that Sudan is 70% Muslim, right? You do know that the majority of its government is made up of Muslims? And you do know how ridiculous you sound using Sudan, a Muslim country to make the point you're trying to make? "When will some Muslims learn that people are going to defend themselves." That's a very good question. You can say the same about SOME Christians. When are some Christians (ie: Bush) gonna learn that if you invade a nation to steal its oil supplies, the people aren't gonna line up like sheep at a slaughter house? I agree, it's ridiculous how SOME people expect to just take everyone over without resistance. "When will some Muslims learn that if you hit me, I'm going to hit you back even harder." I don't know. Since the Muslims who commit terrorism and start wars (they only make up like 1% of the population) aren't very smart, it's hard to expect them to comprehend that way. EDIT: An attempt by an Islamic minority to invade Orthodox nations 1000 years ago does not excuse what the Catholic Church attempted to do to the middle east. The wanted to invade, conquer and forcefully convert the entire middle east because of something that a minority did. And they didn't only try to do it once, they tried to do it several times. And not just Muslims either. Any other non-Christian religion was on its list as well.

You do worry about this an awful lot it seems.

Christianity (like Islam) is an universal religion. They automatically assume that everyone is also a Christian. To them a Hindu is the same as a Pagan as an Atheist: they are just a lost Christians.

Conservative Christians especially believe this about any woman who prefers a traditional female role. They assume (fantasize) that all pagans are sex-crazed perverts and femi-Nazis.

Christians do have a way of talking; they Jesus A LOT. Unless you are doing that, then it is their problem; they are projecting.

That's happened to me before, but I recently de-converted, so I would understand if I still sort of act like a Christian.

Perhaps they mean that you have a very safe life and don't swear or do other "naughty" things. And that you dress kind of conservatively? That might give them a Christian vibe from you.

Maybe you say things like, "Hallelujah!" and avoid phrases like, "Oh my God!"

That you act like a normal person. For some Christians to say you're an atheist or such is to conjure up gnashing teeth, angry at god and in general being mean and bad. I had one lady tell me I MUST be agnostic as I was too nice to be an atheist.

pangel is a prime example of someone like that...being a Christian is all about trying to be like Christ...and there are some people, regardless of their beliefs, whose love shines thru-i have a very close friend who is an atheist and she's just like that, too

Rich Little did a pretty good Richard Nixon. He was called and impressionist.

You obviously have a great deal of respect for the Bible and Christianity. But, if that is all you have, it is only head knowledge and imitation. If you know enough, you would know that a life not given over to Jesus leaves you in your sin and that will keep you separated from God.

I get the same reaction a LOT -- Even when I am wearing my favorite Pagan t-shirt (long story about that one) as many people do not recognize that it IS Pagan.....

They are surprised when I tell them that I do not have a local church....

They're judging you. How quaint. You should reply, "That's interesting. What do non-Christians typically behave like, sir/ma'am? And are you sure that's not a generalization?"
