I don't need proof, all I'd need was ONE flimsy piece of evidence OF ANY KIND that a so-called "god" or "diety" existed, then I'd be a believer. But so far, nothing whatsoever has been discovered that can be considered this evidence.
Now there are TONS of evidence that "God" does NOT exist. The most famous one: "God" answers prayers, right? 11 million innocent Jews, Christians and Moslems in Hitler's death camps prayed to God to be saved from the gas ovens. None were.
God does not exist.

I would believe in exactly what I saw. If I saw "God", I would then believe that God exists, but it would not necessarily mean that I would believe in Christianity, unless said "God" told me that that was the correct thing to believe in. I would give credit where credit is due, but considering that I now "knew" that God did indeed exist, it would be more important than ever to make sure I got the belief right. It wouldn't benefit me to know that "God" exists, but then turn around and join the wrong religion to worship said "God".

I had proof simply in a higher power? Then I would believe in a higher power. If it was the abrahamic god I would try to figure out how to overthrow him.
If it was any other...I could probably handle that until I found out they were just as evil as the first I mentioned. Then I would do the same.

I guess...I'd believe in that particular higher power, but would I worship? No. Also, if the God of the Old Testament was the "One true God" then I'd do all in my power to overthrow Him, as someone else suggested. Just me...so do what you will with it.

Assuming some omnipotent super being appears claiming to be "God" and demonstrating proof of its power through some marvelous act, WHY would I chose to worship it except out of fear - and then only until I can find a way to eliminate the threat it poses?

If there were actual proof that we were all living in a cosmic petrie dish in some gigantic chemistry class in a celestial high school I would believe it.
Since there is no such proof, I don't.

The vast majority of Buddhists do not believe in any higher deity or God.
If it was the violent God depicted in the Old Testament, I would believe in His existence if it was proven.
However, I would still not worship such a deity.

If I had proof god was real, then yes, I would believe (of course - denial doesn't help anybody).
I would not be part of a religion.
