I recently got laid off with my other co-workers and was attempting to file for unemployment in the state of Ca. My question is....Is unemployment insurance the same thing as unemployment?

Yes it is.The unemployment insurance is payed by your employers.Thats (unemployment).I hope you find employment soon.
