The paint has been eaten in those spots. How do I recoup the $ damage to my paint? How long should the claims process drag on for? Lastly, do you recommend I get an estimate or two first (entire paint job or just the spots)? Thanks

The claim process varies from claim to claim. So I can't give you a specific time there. Depends on how much investigation the insurance company has to do.

The insurance company will write their own estimate. You would be wasting your time running around town getting estimates. The insurance company is not going to use them. What they owe is to repair the vehicle. They do not owe a paint match. They will have to look at the car and decide what is covered. Without seeing your car- I can't tell you what they would write to repair it.

Your insurance company will owe you the cost of restoring your vehicle prior to the damage, they typically can't match old paint, so an entire paint job will most likely be required. Depending on your adjuster - they will try to pay as little as they can possibly get away with. Push (without being a jerk) for an entire paint job and get some back up. Find a shop that is approved by your insurance company helps also.

The claim process shouldnt "drag on" at all- unless you have a small crappy company or something.

Since your going through your own insurance they will come out and do an estimate then cut you a check for repairs (minus your deductible)

Dont get any estimates yourself- they will be useless. Insurance goes off their own estimates.

You likely wont need a whole new paint job (unless every single panel is messed up) and they will only pay what it takes to get your car to preloss conditoin. Lets say only the left side got damaged... only the left side will get painted.

I am a car nut and if this were me i would so mad. but if you get spots painted themselves there is a chance of the colors looking un equal and ugly. your best bet is to spend the extra cash and the spots paints and faded into the rest of the car so it blends better.

It depends on your insurance and your deductible. The damage may cost less than what you would have to pay your insurance for your deductible to fix your car.
