'Taste of the wild' is the new product through Diamond, which makes me a little hesitant....BUT it IS grain free which is something I've been looking for. I dont have alot of choices in my area. Heres the link:

'Felidae' Just would like to get away from the grains.

Am also curious which one would be better for cat prone to urinary problems. I feed him only canned BUT he does sneak some dry every chance he gets...

Thanks!

Good point! I am going to email them and ask what the contents are. Glad you pointed that out.
Thanks!

They answered my email very quickly...heres what they say, and YES both are way higher!

Ash is 8.9%, and magnesium is 0.12%.

The food looks pretty good to me. I am glad you give your cat mostly canned food though. That's really a key in urinary problems.

The Taste of the Wild has fruits and vegetables, the Felidae has a variety of meat proteins and brown rice. I think a modest amount of either or both would be a good choice.

I recently did a comparison of Felidae and another product, and Felidae didn't compare as well. This is true here too. What I don't like about the dry Felidae is that they use Rosemary Extract (undesireable except 2-3 times per week).

For the Taste of the Wild, the ingredient list isn't that bad even though the venison is farther down the list than it should be, and the first ingredient is chicken MEAL. But in spite of all the unnecessary filler items I didn't see anything truly BAD.

You mention that you're feeding canned and that's great - I assume this dry food would be just for occasional feeding? I think that would be fine. You already know that dry food is not good for urinary issues, and I don't see one being better than the other in that regard.

I would say Felidae would be best for a cat with UTI problems,as it lists the magnesium and ash content, which is suitable for a cat with FLUTD. "Taste of the Wild" doesn't list them,so they must be higher than what is ideal for cats with urinary problems. They both sound like great foods, though.
