They could be refering to the Pell Grant based on the figures from the FAFSA form. True, it could bring more money. However, it is an income based program. It takes into consideration your parents' income and savings along with your income and savings (at a higher rate). In addition, your family household size is considered along with how many are or will be attending college that academic year. An idea might be to become a part of the campus work study program through the FAFSA form. I will include some free resources below to find tuition money for USC. Good luck!

Grant money for college, unlike loan money, does not have to repaid. A student applies for a grant, and when is accepted to receive such, will receive funds, usually in the form of a check, the spend anyway they choose.

Contact the Financial Aid Department at USC to determine grants that may be availabe; or, research the internet.

I had two grants that paid for my first four 4 years of tuition/fees, plus I got reimbursement at the beginning of each semester so that I could buy textbooks and other school related necessities. My elgibility was determined by the information my mother submitted for my FAFSA form. Basically, it was determined that she couldn't pay anything for my college education. So word of advice...fill out your FAFSA form ASAP after January 1st.

You can also check at your local library for information on grants and scholarships. Local organizations may offer scholarships as well. You can also apply for grants and scholarships online through places such as Sallie Mae (lathough I recently heard the company was sued) and fastweb.com. The university you're applying to may also have some scholarships/grants available to those in particular majors, who have certain GPA's (usually above a 3.0/4.0 scale), etc. So what it really comes down to is that you have to do your homework and search for the finances on your own. It's not always fun and is time consuming, but hey, you do what you gotta do to get money for college.

Another option would also to do work-study while in college or take up a part-time job off campus. I had a non-federal work study, which freed up more financial aid for me. This is because I ended up having less money being withheld as it wasn't expected that I would make that amount with my job. So essentially, it became free money for me and I was still able to work on campus.

Good luck!
