well the majority of Iraqi insurgents are from Saudi Arabia (more than 50%, more than Iraqis themselves) and they are Sunni. I think that it would be immediately seen as a mistake. Iraq's government is dominated by Shi'ites who have had positive relations with Iran. Bombing would be a major step backwards

True, but Iranians are predominantly Persians, and Iraqis are mostly Arab. There is a source of tension there. And not every Iraqi Shiite appreciates Iran gettin involved in Iraq. Iranian weapons, funding, and training have killed alot of Iraqis, including Shittes.

Since the Shiites of Iraq are Arabs and the Shiites of Iran are Persians, probably not a lot of reaction from the former Kingdom of Basra is expected. I compare it to the situation between Arabs and Palestinians. The Arabs are descended from Ishmael. The Paletinians from Goliath. Even today, the Arab word for a Palestinian is "Filistinya". I haven't seen the armies of the Arab League attempt to crash into Israel to rescue the Palestinians. The fact that the Palestinians are still crammed onto the Gaza Strip and portions of the West Bank shows me that the Arab League hasn't even put down the welcome mat for them since 1948.
Don't get me wrong. There will be some lip service paid by the like of Al Sadra and some of his ilk. But, don't expect the Shiites of Iraq to raise some Mujahadeen to "rescue" the Persians.
