Deut 22:13-21- if a man marries a woman and then decides that he hates her, he can claim she wasn't a virgin when they married. At that point her father must prove she was a virgin. (How is not explained.) If he can't, then the woman is to be stoned to death at her father's doorstep.

If you see a pretty woman among your captives and would like her for a wife, then bring her home and "go in unto her." Later, if you decide you don't like her, you can simply "let her go." Deut 21:11-14

If a betrothed virgin is raped in the city and doesn't cry out loud enough, then "the men of the city shall stone her to death." Deut 22:23-24

Lev (12:2:5) it states, "If a woman conceives and bears a male child, she shall be ceremonially unclean seven days...if she bears a female child she shall be unclean two weeks...."

Exd 15:3 The LORD is a man of war: the LORD is his name.

Of course, maybe this is all metaphor and allegory right?

Jimminy freakin' Christmas you guys! Can't anyone read between the lines? Believers and atheists alike didn't get it.
Of course I am an atheist myself. Only an idiot or someone who didn't read the question wouldn't realize that.

Gotta love that Bible...it certainly made an unbeliever out of me!

I really did get your sarcasm, that's why I starred it .... well done!

The truth is that God did create the earth the way the BIble says. You may not understand the way the Bible relates the creation of the earth, for the creation of the earth is pretty much only in the first verse of the Bible. The proceeding verses are describing how God prepared the already created planet for human habitation. Snakes and bushes do not talk but an invisible spirit can talk through them both. A man was in the belly of a big fish. It could have been a whale or even a whale shark. God does rule heaven and the entire universe. There is no such place as hell. That is a pagan originated myth. The Bible describes the place where the dead go as the grave, Sheol, or Hades. The dead are not conscious and do not exist any longer. Therefore they do not think or feel anything in death. Generally all people who die go to the grave, not just those you mentioned. God does love all humanity and he does not kill off children. That is also a lie. Children die because of unforeseen occurrences and circumstances often beyond human control and sometimes under human control. God has a purpose to save humans not destroy them.

LOL! I know! Those athiests are so ingorant! Only the LORD could show his love by having men rape women and stone them to death afterward. And God forbid she should have a HAND put over her mouth while she's raped to keep her from screaming - that is an unclean woman for sure!

Of course, my friend, you will be told that nobody follows the OT any longer, etc. etc., and then be told you're going to HELL for blaspheming the LORD (who you cannot really blaspheme since you don't believe in him/her/it), that you're one sorry soul if you can't see that GOD sacrificed his ONLY SON for us, and that you could never understand the LORD's love because you're too ignorant. None of this, of course, is true. I know some wonderful Christians out there but there are others here who only say they don't follow the OT when it's inconvenient for them. If it's to malign homosexuals, then it's fine, of course. But if you bring up the two-fabric thing and the no shellfish, suddenly the OT isn't so important any more. Hypocrisy, plain & simple. Not by all, but by far too many.

Scarily enough, Aaron, I was looking at the book section in the local pharmacy today and every other new book I saw was an exhortation on Christianity. 3:16. The Road To Evil. The Secret To God's Works (next to the best-selling "The Secret" - great packaging). The rest were Stephen King, Harry Potter, etc... Why is it that there were no "Only Atheists Matter" or "Atheists Tell It Like It Is" books there? Why? Because no one writes them! We have more important things to worry about- like humanity, and ourselves and families (and the role religion plays in destroying all three, like from Dawkins or Hitchens). AND, the only reason I mention those names is because they're the only two I know who have written books fully condoning atheism, and their names have been dragged through the mud so viciously and publicly it's almost impossible NOT to have heard. Yet day by day, out come more books acting as moral standards by which to live by just because the Bible says so, and few people say a word. America is a theocracy deferred, and it's sad to see it.

By the Fruit shall ye know the tree. People see hatefilled, spiteful, violent Christians and Muslims all around them. They read the Bible and see all of the sick and twisted things done by God's command.

And it's easier to believe that there is no God, than that God is Evil and Insane.

The whole point of Jesus was to show that it didn't have to be like that. That God can also Love. He meant for Christians to be the bearers of that Love.

The Christians we've got just don't seem to even understand the job--much less be up to it. But, is it really a human failing? Or are they just showing the true face of the Mad God?

For the exact same reason theists can't understand that supernatural beings don't exist......your minds lack the capacity to realize that gods and all that magic is just an idea thought up by man long ago because they had no other explanation for all the things that were then unexplainable....I mean had they known then what we know now, they would have realized that there's nothing supernatural about it......while us atheists on the other hand are too enlightened to believe in fairy tales....we rely on logic and factual evidence to support our theories instead of blind faith.

Wow, that is just scary!

Really makes me want to run out and convert! NOT!!!

That really puts in perspective the way men thought during the English and Salem Witch hunts..... Their God told them to do it!

And it is so very sad that people still believe in this nonsense.

Blessed Be!

the bible was written by men in the dark ages that had no respect for women...i would think that if there was a god, he would not approve of these kinds of things

if a virgin gets raped and doesn't scream loud enough, she is to be killed??? what kind of god would agree with that???

god is a flying spaghetti monster

Yup, sign me right up. Of course, if they actually read it they will say "Hey, that's OT, that doesn't count anymore!" because somehow their god did a complete 180 and became a loving and kind god after being a complete vile, violent bastard.

The idea of a loving God and the Bible from which you quote don't really mean anything unless God can first be proven to exist. You have to walk before you can run.

Um.. because they are atheists. Something that does not exist cannot love.

The Old Testament God seems to be a right wanker compared to the New Testament fellow.
