A train will probably run about $65.00 one-way from NYC (Penn Station) to Montreal.

Greyhound definitely has buses that travel from NYC to Niagara Falls and Toronto. A few of my friends took the bus to Niagara a couple of years ago. I believe Amtrak also runs a train from NYC to Toronto.

I would go to New York City. You might want to try Boston or Miami.
