I would take her /him to you vet and have get a good physical before putting it to sleep. Your dog could have a bladder infection which is causing the problem and that can be treated with antibiotics to clear it up. You don't say how old the dog is. You can also get some arthritis medication to give your dog as needed for the pain and stiffness. You have to consider the quality of life that your dog is experiencing. What was it like before all this started and what is it like now? Having a pet euthanized is a very difficult and painful decision to make. My vet charges $35 for the procedure and lets you be with the animal so you can say your final goodbyes. I just recently made the decision to have my senior citizen put down because of her quality of life. She was almost 16 years old and no longer had a good quality of life. I don't mean that I didn't care for her, because I did and took her to the vet at least once a month if not more for health reasons. Once you have considered all your options and done all you can do to ease the pain it is in, then and only then should you have it put to sleep. If you no longer want the dog get in touch with a rescue group before giving it away for free because someone may want the dog to use as a "bait dog" in dog fighting. Good luck.
I reread your post and saw that it was also anemic. Your vet can also treat the dog for this condition and get it healthy. When I got my senior citizen she was underweight, had heartworms, afraid of humans because of no socialization, and anemic. The reason she was anemic was because she was so full of fleas they were drinking all of her blood. I had her defleaed, heartworm treatment, spayed, and treated for her anemia. She was eight years old when she came to me, a rescue.

If he is not ill, at least call around or advertise on a website in case somebody wants to adopt him. You might make somebodies life 10x happier. Make sure they are good owners, of corse.
If you really can't wait any longer, take him to a local shelter or rescue, it's free and again, he may make somebodies life that much happier.
If you *absolutely need* to have him put down call a local vet. They will give you prices, and with the amount of corruption now they won't even question you.
I'm sorry that you can't keep your dog, but you do need to think about the dogs feelings in this. Didn't mean to lecture you, but it needed to be said.
How could somebody live with the fact they *murdered* their dog just cause they couldn't be bothered.

Stephanie, I'm sorry to disagree with you, but it needs to be pointed out that not all veterinarians are terribly ethical or concerned with their patients' welfare. Some are only in practice to make money. Sad, but true.
I agree that if the dog is suffering, you can take it to your vet or to the Humane Society. If you simply don't want the animal anymore and are looking for a quick way to get rid of it, shame on you.

Why are you wanting to put your dog to sleep? You really should have given more information. If he is sick you can take him to any vet clinic or shelter. If you just don't want him anymore, give him to a shelter and give him a chance.

it depends whats wrong with it. is it terminally ill. is it old and sick. if ur dog is in perfect health no vet will put the dog to sleep. if u dont want it then ur vet will suggest a shelter. but if ur putting ur animal to sleep because it is suffering then u can just take it to ur vet. but just because u had to ask my guess is that u just dont want the animal anymore
EDIT: well then u need to call ur vet. ask him what u should do. ur vet is the one u should be asking.

Try your local humane society. I recently had to put my dog to sleep. It cost me $150 at her vet. I went to my local humane society to look for another dog to find out it was $10. Needless to say, I was shocked....the local human society has very inexpensive clinics for pets.

Why does he need to be put to sleep? If he doesn't have any serious health/medical problems and is not suffering, there's really no need to. It it's serious, just go to a vet's office.

Why are you putting you dog to sleep. Is he very ill?
If he is old and very sick, any vet will do it.
If you just want to rid of him, take him to shelter or rescue.

Turn on Animal Planet any night of the week. It's called the Houston ASPCA!!!!!
And if you are putting her down for selfish reasons...they will put you in jail. :)
