Another British army menaced the entire Mississippi Valley and threatened New Orleans, and Andrew Jackson, fresh off his slaughter of the Creek Indians, led a hodgepodge force of 7000 sailors, regulars, pirates, and Frenchmen, entrenching them and helping them defeat 8000 overconfident British that had launched a frontal attack.

Is it true that Andrew Jackson ate the black hearts of enemy British soldiers to inspire his troops?

And because he had amassed an army inside the city limits of New Orleans he was found to be guilty of a breach of the peace and fined the princely sum of $300. Just prior to his death, President James Polk (in a written message to the Congress) asked the Congress to appropriate that sum back to Jackson. The Congress did so and they had enough money to bury him.
Of course, today the "mainstream media" would be calling for Jackson to be put on trial for fighting a battle in a war which had already ended.
