I forgot to enter some things into my check register and it resulted in a returned check. I paid the bill that the returned check was for and all the fees immediately after I found out. I'm just wondering if this is going to effect my credit at all...this is the first time it's ever happened to me and I'm sooo not happy with myself and kind of worried about it too. Thanks for any answers I get!

Depending on the bank you deal with, if its a first offence you won't be reported, so it will not ruin your credit. Also speak to your bank about overdraft protection, this will help stop this from happening again.

It should not affect your credit. Most bill companies do not even report a missed payment, late payment, etc. unless it is more than 30 days past due. I would say you are safe. Most places when they pull up a credit report, will show each account you have open and how it has been paid each month. (on time, etc.) So even if it would show, they would also show all the months that you have paid on time and that would definately out weigh your boo boo! Hope this helps.

It depends on if the bill was from a lender (like a credit card, car loan, etc.) that does data dump reports to the credit bureaus (like Equifax, TransUnion, Experian). If you paid the bill within 30 days of the due date, it probably will not impact your credit report.

I look at credit for a living approving car loans. I have been doing it for over a year and I have seen only a handful of returned checks on peoples credits. If you squared it away it should be reported. Businesses will usually only report that if it remains unpaid.

If you are in Canada, utilities bills don't even report to your bureau unless they are in serious collections. Returned cheques do not report either unless the bank flags you for fraudulent activity after MANY seemingly intended incidents (I used to work in the bank department that returned and reported). You are fine - you took care of it, and you're doing great with just one ever!

Of course not! If you got it taken care of then you have nothing to worry about! If you don't have collector calling you then you're fine! I'm proud of you for being so responsible and careful about your credit and taking responsibility for your mistakes!

99.99% chance it won't even be reported. I wouldn't worry at all about one check that you cleared up.
