"Letting go" when someone has anxiety is to not grasp one's fears so tightly, and to allow situations and others to not be controlled.
"Letting go" when depression is experienced would be to set one's angers and disappointments and guilt aside, and to choose to live free of emotions that have become knotted inside.

My answer may not compare to the others, but for me to let go of my anxiety/depression, was to seek professional help. Mind you, I'm not a kid. I 'm in my forties and sought help only a couple years ago after feeling un-okay since childhood. I had to let go of trying to supress my anxiety and sadness with alcohol, self help books, meditation, meth, pot,and more alcohol. I have a mood disorder that keeps the seratonin flowing to my brain correctly. A chemical imbalance. I tried counseling, downers, relation tapes, etc. But a chemical imbalance is not something you can wish, read, or drink away. If it's anxiety/depression caused by an event or an array of them, then a counselor may be able to see you thru it. Self help books and relaxation tapes might too. But if it's a medical problem, like mine, antidepressents are a Godsend. Walk a mile in my shoes, anyone in doubt what modern meds can do for some people. If it weren't for a drug, like Paxil, I'm sure I wouldn't be alive and HAPPY now!

"Letting Go" ,.... is fully accepting ones own helplessness and powerlessness, ...... which is not to say that one "gives up"...... rather,... in the true act of letting go,....one Surrender's to Life...... and turns one's own life and will over to the willl of that supreme One power that in truth is guiding each of our lives and the entire universe all the time.
If you look deeply enough,....you will discover that fear,.... is merely a symptom of our own unconscious refusal to accept and trust this life.
The difference between a True Master,.... and the average person in this world,... is that the Master is right out in the middle of the mighty river that is life,.... riding the current, freely and without any fear or resistance, ......while the average person is near the shore of the river, grabbing for branches to hold onto and struggeling against the current that is carrying them down the river.

It means to live in the moment, to stop constantly "thinking" of whats happening and whats bothering you and to take these anxieties and bring them to a realisitc level.. evaluate them and fix them.
Just keep you mind clear, and keep you will strong.
Believe in yourself.
