everytime i see the question (like 23 times a week) i think: o god (no pun intended) again!!! but (dont know exactly why) i cant help but answering it...is there a cure for that "answering urge", is the question: why are atheists in this section" highly addictive? what would become of yahoo answers if someone every 15 minutes didnt ask the question? Would we atheists loose a reason for living?

I say 'Loose Goose' in my head to differentiate between Lose and Loose.
I usually answer the question (why we come here) with: I come here for the comedy cos my doctor says laughing will keep me healthy.
Thank YOU! for contributing.
I don't really care how often they ask it - there's always a fresh lot of answerers to answer if I don't.
BUT I honestly come here to be entertained - if I couldn't smile at what the fundies say here I'd go over to FSTDT.

Don't worry it passes with time, but every time you answer it theres a good chance some Christian yahoo might pick up a book other than the bible and learn something.

It's extremely frustrating to see it over and over and over, each time asked as if it were some original thought.
It's a question that is often asked with such smug and extremely misplaced self-satisfaction that it's a really good thing one can't reach through the internet to throttle another.

That's why we invented the drinking game. You can answer if you want, but you can also just answer:
, , or the like.
You may also drink to any other silly question that we get a lot, such as any form of Pascal's wager, Bertran Russell's teapot (prove that god doesn't exist), or Monkey questions (if we evolved from monkeys, why are their still monkeys?

I repeat, why ARE you in this section? The answer is, to annoy, harrass and inflame those of us who believe in God. You seek no true Q&A, you only seek to piss people off and you really have no viable reason to be here since you are anti religion and anti God...now run along and play outside and let the grownups discuss.

I hope not. I also hope the believers wouldn't lose a reason for living if we stopped newbies from our own side asking "Why aren't the Mythology and Folklore and Religion and Spirituality sections the same?"

Just because you're an atheist doesn't mean you don't have some sort of spirituality. Wiccans are considered atheists by the "Good" book - and many of them are highly spiritual.

I feel so ashamed. It's just that we hope that they will eventually understand why. I know, the definition of crazy is to do the same thing several times and still expect a different result. Waaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!!!

here are some suggested new answers to this old chestnut:
"For the beer"
"To met girls"
"I love those little hot dogs in barbeque sauce"
"To met guys"
"The voices in my head told me to come here"
"I was following a white rabbit down a hole"
"There is nothing good on TV"
How's that ?
