Are you by chance friends with Michael Vick? Ok, bad joke, sorry. But really, don't you think that's a bit harsh?
My personal feelings aside, no you do not have the 'right' to shoot it... (I would say "unless it's self defense".. but even that is pushing it w/most legal systems) I used to work for an attorney and we had a case where a man did just what you asked.. it was the second time the dog came on his property, and the first time the dog had attacked his dog... 2 years later the guy was still trying to get out of a major lawsuit and facing a couple misdemeanor charges.
Call animal control, the police, and your neighbor- see who gets there first..

All of these people are saying no, but I am going to tell you the truth. It depends on where you live. You'd have to contact the local police station and ask. In TX, the cops said you can shoot any animal if it is on your property and tearing up something or going to the bathroom. I would recommend talking to your neighbor first though because it is not the dogs fault. The owner is responsible for the dog. If nothing happens, contact the police and get them involved. Something will eventually change and your neighbors might start taking care of their dog.

I know it is frustrating, when this happens. Still, you cannot shoot the dog. Not only is it mean, but your neighbor can sue you for shooting it. Call your neighbor, or the animal control.
If it is attacking you or your property, then that is a different story. Yes, for self-defense.

Absolutely NOT!! You have the right to call the neighbor and tell them to come get their dog. I have a neighbor that shoots all stray animals. I hate people like that.

Uuuhhh....no! That's really mean and plus, what did the dog do? Dogs don't understand the concept of "trespassing" or "private property", they just see a big yard with some loevly green grass to roll in. Call your neighbor or something. Is it really that hard?

You dont have the legal right to shoot someones dog unless they are harming you or your livestock, I've been in this situation, you cannot shoot someones dog legally for just being in your yard,my neighbors dog was bad to come over her and kill my rabbits, as long as he wasn't bothering anything we had to legal right to do anything but complain to the owner, but when he started killing my rabbits and the owner wouldn't do anything about it we had the right to shoot him, even though it would have been more fitting to shoot the neighbor for being a bad owner who put his dogs in danger knowingly and willingly. ( I am in WV the law may vary slightly from state to state I'm not sure)

The Animal Control officer told me I had a right to "defend myself" but left it at that--don't know what that really means. I have half-wit neigbhors in back with 4 unneutered male dogs who dig and I have been confronted in my own yard more than once by an unfriendly dog of theirs that wieghs about 120 pounds.

Not unless you live somewhere that allows discharging of weapons. Most cities and counties don't allow the firing of guns inside an area where populous.. Also, you'd probably be brought up on charges of animal cruelty. The better thing to do would be to call animal control and have them remove the animal.

NO you dont have to the right to shoot it because you have to call animal controll 1st. The only way you would be in the right to shoot the dog is if the dog was attacking someone or something. Please call the police or animal controll 1st.
