According to jayski.com, tomorrow, Oct. 2, The Rock will officially be sold to the highest bidder. What do you think the new owner will do with it? Any ideas or suggestions? What do you think?

As much as I hate to say it, I agree with Beth (not hate to agree with her...but hate to agree with her answer). "The Rock" will probably be turned into a golf course or shopping mall.

I've seen it too many times, to some really great tracks. Riverside is one that comes to mind. Joe Shaheen's Springfield Speedway is another. A lot of super-famous drivers raced at Shaheen's. Mario Andretti, AJ Foyt, to name a few. My favorite driver, Bill Elliott got his first NNC win at Riverside (it was NASCAR Grand National back then). I remember watching the race, and it starting to rain. He was the first driver to be able to keep his car on track for the win.

It's really sad that it has to happen, but we race fans have to remember that not everyone is a race fan, nor do they care about the history a certain track may have.

Edit - The Rock was sold at auction. Former NASCAR racer Andy Hillenburg bought it. He plans on having races there, as well as his Fasttrack Racing School. He plans on also having the track available for filming commercials and movies. It was reported that immediately after the sale, he was on the phone trying to get an ARCA date for next year. The most recent report that I read was that Andy Hillenburg (Owner of Fast Track Driving Experience and former ARCA Champion) is very interested in buying it. He has a grand plan to buy it, fix it up and get racing back there. Do I think Nextel Cup? No. I don't think that will ever happen as long as Brian France is running the show and money is the main motivation. He may be able to get ARCA, Busch east, Hooters Pro Cup, Craftsman Truck Series and maybe the Busch Series. At least we will see some type of racing , there. Let's hope. The last thing that we need is another housing development or mall...

From what I can find on it is they haven't found a buyer because it wasn't profitable. I think it fell short 10,000 seats of selling out the 60,000 seats available in it's last Nascar race. It may sell cheap enough that someone may purchase it and use it for testing. I imagine if it sells cheap enough that someone could make improvements to the facility and put it back into circuit. Maybe there is some conspiring from Brian France or his affiliates to do something with it. Hard to say.

Hey. I had an idea. What if Anheiser-Busch bought all of these older tracks and upgaded them and started another series and pushed Nascar from existance?

I even have in no way herd of a 1888 buffalo head wheat penny what you have is a 1888 Indian head penny wheat pennies weren't minted till finally 1909 buffalo head nickles weren't minted till finally 1915 as for auctioning the coin off you does no longer make any funds your coin is in basic terms properly worth 5 to 10 funds so in case you auctioned it off it would take holiday of your existence to public sale the coin plus you may would desire to diminish a p.c. of the money you acquire on your coin with the auctioneer so at maximum you may make like per danger a greenback try advertising it to a pawn broking provider or in basic terms placed it up and supply it to a minimum of one among your toddlers sooner or later it may actual take a pair hundred years for it to be properly worth various funds

I for one would love to see this track built up better and brought back in to action... but, i doubt that will happen. Bruton Smith did his whining and got the races away from there for his own tracks and i don't forsee the Rock getting them back.

I've missed watching them race at the Rock. I hope they decide to fix it tomorrow. It's 10:47PM EST and answered. LOL!

Well I think that it will be a track again.

They need to put money into it and make the repairs and bring it back.

Just my thoughts

It will be a shopping mall or business park just like every track that has ever been shut down and sold.
