You could apply a neosporin or triple antibiotic ointment and that will help.
Just a recommendation here...rabies is spread by contact with bodily fluids from an infected animal. It's probably wisest to pass this task on to your local animal control officers.

Since the dog is a stray, there is a good chance that it has never had a rabies vaccine and the dog that bit it may not have had one as well. Call animal control and have it picked up before it bites you and then you may have rabies too. Sorry that is the best thing you can do.

DON'T TAKE HIM TO THE POUND NO MATTER WHAT! Some people at the pound hate dogs so much that they put them to sleep as soon as they are in the car! Here's what you do: try and get a picture of the wound as close up as you can. Take that picture to the vet. Then, next time you see the dog, put him in this little cage (or crate) and take him to the vet. The vet can then determine if he has rabies or not. The reason for the picture is that you can get this medicine for it.
If he turns out to be nice and healthy, take him to a nice animal shelter, where they actually give the dog a chance to be adopted. And while you are at it, you might as well adopt him yourself (this is fully your desision). Or, you could make a donation to the shelter so they could probably purchase another cage (also you desision).
Hope this helps!

bite wounds are nothing to mess with. That dog needs some vet care. If you can't afford it, you could call the Humane Society to see if they have room for that dog (which, frankly, they probably won't) or Animal Control, your county "dog catcher". Please keep in mind that Animal Control can only keep a stray dog for about 5-7 days and if unclaimed or not adopted they will probably euthanize the dog. If you have the room, maybe you could take that dog home with you?

The dog needs to go to the pound so they can be sure he doesn't have rabies. As to the wound, disinfect it and apply neosporin.

Spare sulfur powder on the wound as many times as needed in order to not let it get wet. The drier the wound becomes the less chance of an infection. If you can't get immediately sulfur powder then spare on to it anything like medicated talc or similar. Hurry up! Good luck to you and your dog!

I have put on antibiotic cream to my animals minor injuries. Hopefully it is on a place he cannot lick off. However if this is a stray animal, maybe you should take him to the humane society so he is not being bitten by other animals and not living such a harsh existence. It is not fair to the poor dog.

you can get the wound dress at the vet so it does not get out of hand. that's the best way for now, when you go to the vet he will give you the same dressing to apply every day or every week. and your dog will be fine.

Wash with regular, mild soap & water. Apply Neosporin Ointment a couple times a day.
The ointment stays on better than the cream.
