Yes.

I have on several occassions unavoidably gone without food for over three weeks. It is not something anyone should ever do voluntarily because of the health risks involved.

Three weeks starvation is not long enough to have a significant impact on your metabolism. Unless you are taking strenous exercise the body uses up fat reserves in preferences to muscle tissue.

We are all predisposed to food addiction, some more than others. As with all addicts obese people live in a state of self-denial about how much they eat, proper portion sizes, etc. That is why the first stage to correcting their problem is often for them to keep a strict diary of what they eat.

Children should not normally be put on a low calorie diet. They should be given a normal healthy diet to follow. With proper exercise nature and time will do the rest.

some at first, but then the body goes into starvation mode and metabolism slows WAY down. When he/she starts eating again then the weight will come right back on.
This is NOT an effective, long term way to lose weight. It is starvation and will create a host of horrible side effects. Plus, you could die.

if water were not allowed you would die. you will loose weight but good grief eat small amounts you dont have to be so extreme add fruits and vegies cut back on startch like potatoes rice pasta and sweets...that will help you tons!!! It would be a slow process either way and that should be the preferance brcause if you loose quickly your body will not adjust with the weight loss and there would be lots of excess skin

I understand what you are asking. I have seen shows that are about people who are bed bound because they are so heavy.

I have thought, why not just cut their calories to almost nothing? But on the shows, they always put them on a 1200-2000 calorie a day diet.

I guess if you were eating 10,000 calories a day, eating 2000 would cause you to lose weight.

i know what you mean you do hear overweight people say that they don't eat much but they don't look at calorific intake & most often than not they don't excercise & i'm not aiming this at everyone ok not eating for three weeks would'nt cause them to die as stated earlier but the health risk is not good & i to believe they would put the weight back on plus some

Yeah you would. You will also feel tired, hungry, sick etc... Incidentally when you stop eating food your body stores fat so although your body weight will go down your BMI will remain or get higher. Suggest eating moderate amounts and doing regular exercise wii be a healthier option.

if they didn't eat anything at all they'd die,

it's the coroners rule of 3.

you can survive 3 minutes without oxygen
3 days without water
and 3 weeks without food.

but i'm assuming that no one would be silly enough to try that basic rule for weight loss is burn more calories than you eat, so just reducing what you eat a little bit and moving a bit more (ie excercising) will help with weight loss especially if severely over weight

not eating anything at all though would be a bad bad bad idea

The body would rocket straight into starvation mode and weight loss will slow and stop very quickly. Followed by binging to make up for starving..the end result..weight gain..As a bonus..trying to lose weight later in life will be incredibly hard because of the ruined metabolism...good luck

yes, very rapidly. The problem is that when he/she began eating again, he/she would gain all the weight back and more even rapidly, because their body would be so starved and confused and would store all of the fat that it could because it hadnt eaten in so long.

Not a good idea hun.

Obviously they would lose weight, but the weight plus some would be gained when they started eating again. Starving yourself kills your metabolism.
