Certificate of naturalization is the document showing the grant of citizenship to an alien who can now apply for a British passport.

That is the certificate of Registration or Naturalization as a British citizen that you would have received when you received your status a British citizen. You may have received this from your local Governor General's office or some local Internal & External Affairs government department already. You will submit that original document with your application and the Identity & Passport Service office will return same to you upon delivery of your British passport.

Yes it is embarrassing and ridiculous. Adoptees were born of another woman, so to amend that certificate to state that the adoptive mother gave birth is misrepresentation. Even with a pedigree dog - when you register the dog the birth certificate is not altered. What else some of you ask, would you call it? How about a Certificate of Adoption or Certificate of Legalized Guardianship with both sets of parents listed? At least it would be honest.
