Because people want the "quick fix" and to He!! with what it costs society morally.

Because, American's (and many other developed countries)cannot accept the fact that somethings just 'are'. We are not all destined to live forever - ever heard of natural selection? Constantly meddling with nature through stem cell research and IVF can only lead to problems for future generations. Nobody wants to inconvenienced in any way - they cannot accept difficult situations anymore - everything must be 'fixed'.

Americans are the quickest to eradicate infections. Viral infectios are often prevented. Congenital diseases are diagnosed very early and blighted ova or embryos are aborted. Americans are left with only degenerative and neoplastic diseases.. For these, stem cell therapy is the only hope.
