housing- due to the population...apartments are very popular..in fact you can't find that many houses...in the rural areas..people still live in those old courtyards ..
communication- it used to be letters once upon a time but due to the rise of technology...and globalisation..using the internet and emails are getting heaps popular...everyone use it..of course phone calls are also popular especially text messages- this lead to a new language known as tech language..slangs and weird saying that i hate and don't understand...

Most city dwellers live in small apartments in old or newer housing complexes. Apartments are usually not very spacious by north american standards. In the country side, people live in small one- or two-storey brick houses. Traditionally in cities like Beijing, hutongs were the most popular type of housing, but they are disappearing to give way to large apartment buildings.
Communication-wise, there is a big difference between the urbanized areas and the countryside. In cities, most people use cellphones and have a land line at home. In the country side, cell phones are not very common.

In China, if you live in an urban area, you're usually in an apartment. Townhouses are pretty much considered mansions.
In a rural area, you might live in a 3-4 room home with a wide open space, or yard. The entire area of the plot of land is surround by a wall.

it really depends in what part of china you live in.
If you live in the city, obviously apartments are popular.
If you live more in the countryside, then small cottages are popular.
Cellphones are the most popular modes of communication. Everyone has one.

most of my relatives live in these huge spacious apartments. I usually see those in china too, so i guess that's the most popular kind of housing. Popular modes of communication are by phones and cellphones. =)
