Well the answer is simple, no it's not because they are stupid which some of you have implied. It is because there religion forbids them from trying to understand how and why the Universe was created. They think they already know so their philosophy is "whats the point in learning science."

They don't understand it. Actually, they don't understand evolution, but they think they do. There's the crucial difference. Also, string theory doesn't directly invalidate their beliefs in the same way evolution does.
