DO NOT LET THE TODDLER TAKE CONTROL.
This is the tantrum stage, but do not allow the child to get away with it. Do not give in. If you do you will be making a rod for your own back. The child will learn that all he/she has to do is scream loud and long enough to get whatever he/she wants.
Its hard sometimes to see your little one in tears because they are frustrated, because they are still learning that the world doesn't revolve around them as it did when they were newborn. But it is a lesson that they must learn, in order to take their rightful place in society. No-one wants a precocious brat ruling the house, or believing that they can behave that way at other's places.
Be gentle, but stand firm - you are the adult, and don't reward bad behavior (don't offer a treat, if they will only stop).
