If your cooking it for today it will take 4-5 hr even if you put it on high. Best to put it on in the morning. You can add carrots, onions, cabbage and potatoes season and let it cook on low all day. It will make it's own juices for a great broth for gravy.
FYI: when cooking in crock pot there is no reason to add liquid if your meat has some fat on it. If you add liquid your meat will be floating in it by the time it is done.

Everyone here is right on the standard "pot roast" recipes.
How about some southwestern flare?

Chusck roast is great for shredded beef.
Cover with 1-2 small cans of "Rotel" mild, regualr or hot in the crock pot. When it's done you take two forks or your fingers and shred it to bits and serve on fresh cooked torillias with beans, rice & sliced avacado on he side.
Yummy!

Are you cooking vegetables also or just the roast?
I'd say 6-8 hours on low.

boiling meat toughens it....... cook it in the crockpot on low for about 6 hours... don't add any water.. and add the vegetables when it is about half way done, then add about a half a cup of flour or corn starch that you have mixed with cold water about 2 hours before its done.. this helps make a gravy
