The OB King
S Is something wrong with my dog?
I've noticed something with my dogs eyes. She is a year and a half and just recently she has these white "eye lid" type things appearing every so often from the bottom corners of her eyes. This causes the eyes to narrow and quite honestly looks scary! It doesn't seem to bother her but looks frightening. Is this normal?

I do intend to take her to the vets tomorrow. As they are closed at the moment, I thought I'd post on here!

Dogs have a third eyelid which usually comes out when the eye is infected to help protect it.

Causes can range from bacterial conjunctivitis to a trapped hair in the eye.

There are other possibilities, so take the dog to the vet ASAP..!

I THINK this is probably her haws. Some dogs have dark colored haws & some have lighter ones. It only matters if you show your dog - cuz some breeds call for dark colored haws cause the light ones detract from the expression.
One of my best show Collies just happens to have light haws - it isn't a problem at all - just looks kinda weird when she moves her eyes a certain way & they are visible.
It's absolutely no big deal - it's simply the coloration of the flesh.
I would attach a photo of her if I knew how! LOL

All cats and dogs have this white 'third eyelid'. Many fall asleep with just this eyelid closed and not their outer lids. However it's not usual for the third eyelid to suddenly become more noticeable, so it's good you're taking him to the vet.

hi you dont need to take doggy to the vets! the white things are supposed to be there, its their inner eye lids. all dogs have them. sometimes you can see them (especially if dog is tired) but most of the time you dont notice them. honestly, its nothing to worry about. my dog looks scary too when she closes her inner lids.

I don't think that is normal. You should probably call your vet and describe it to her/him. If she thinks you should bring your dog in then go.

Check out these websites, too. Then you should know when and if you're dog has a problem again.

No it don't sound right take her to the vets if it was your eyes you'd be at the doctors. Hope she gets better soon.
