I take a homeopathic bio-rememdy called Calm-U-Nat. Sounds like a stupid name, I know, but it works amazingly well!!!
You can buy it at GNC. There are no side effects and its not habit forming. Its great for sleeplessness at night, but you can also take it during the day. It doesn't make you drowsy; it just takes the "edge" off when you are super stressed out.
I hope that helps. Good Luck!

There's something you can buy from health shops and good supermarkets called Bach's Rescue Remedy. You put a few drops on your tongue and that can help. A lot of people swear by it. If you drink a lot of coffee, try to switch to decaf and see if that helps as caffeine can make you feel nervy or on edge. You could try meditation or just sitting down with your eyes closed and focussing on your breathing for a few mintues a day. There is also something at health shops called 5-HTTP which is like natures chill out/happy hormones in a bottle. It's safe and herbal and just something your body naturally gets from food (such as meat etc) but may just be in short supply of. If you'd rather do something than take something, lifting weights, running or whacking a punchbag help me too. Anything that releases the pent up energy inside you. Your body will release endorphins after a good workout and that's your body's own happy, chill out chemical too.

Kalms tablets work to give a little relief. Try everything else you possibly can before going onto prescribed medication. Your doctor should be able to offer some alternatives. Get a support network of friends set up so you have someone you can call when things get too difficult.

Slow deep breaths is the best thing.
Put your finger on one nostril and breath slowly in. Make sure you tummy presses out (not your chest). Hold the breath for a count of 3 then breathe slowly out. Repeat pressing alternately on each nostril.
After a couple of minutes you will feel much better.
Your G.P. can prescribe beta-blockers. These drugs control your heart rate. They come in two forms slow release for long term use and quick release for occassional use. The main down side is they make you a little tired until you get used to them.
Some people find fresh hops under the pillow useful to help them relax at night-time.

okay. well for a not stupid answer. If you are having loads of trouble go seek some proffesional help. I did and i got put on zoloft for anxiety issues. It may not just be nerves. You could possibly have an anxiety issue in which case your proscribing doctor can recommend something for you to take!!

Try to be aware of when your nerves flare up, and what causes it. Are you under alot of pressure? Work? School? If you can't find something to soothe your nerves on your own, make an appt. to see your doctor. He can prescribe something for you when you need it.

I would suggest depending on how severe your problem is, seeing a doctor. They will be able to recomend drugs that can help calm your nerves.
I would also suggest finding a quiet spot each day and meditating. Our kitties help me relax, you can sit and watch them play for a few minutes and nothing bothers you.
Good luck :-)
