in my opinion, no, neither does it make it safe. Look at all the drug recalls and food recalls and at times, people dying. The FDA is only in it for the money, not protecting consumers.

I would agree, the product works in clinical trials but may not work for everyone since everyone's body chemistry and tolerance is different.
Is it safe? That, is a different issue. If a product is not safe, then it must not be working properly. And there are many, many drugs that get past the FDA without clinical trials and observations(recent Health news headline). Or conflicts-of-interest. Drug makers are notoriously known to exaggerate their product, and further do so by lauding the board members with influential talk, cash and petty gifts to fastrack their product through the FDA. If it sounds good, then it gets approved and recommended for universal use without even basis of safety, efficacy, and how it is used and who uses it(moral problems here). And since not all products approved by the FDA is safe, it's not until hundreds or thousands of people suffer side effects or die before the FDA pulls it from the market but usually not without resistance from the manufacturer.
Food. Less than 1% of all imported food, and products are actually tested. And the FDA plans to close many of their labs. Not only that, but it's hard to keep track of imported food since ingredients can come from many parts of the world just to make one loaf of bread.
I would not rely on the FDA to make the decisions for me...at all.
Okay, if you really want me to be the clown and hear me rant: THE FDA IS USELESS. IT'S PRACTICALLY DOMINATED BY BIG BUSINESSES AND CORRUPT INDUSTRY! NO, NO NO. It doesn't mean it's guaranteed to work. Look at the cold medicines the drug companies keep telling you to feed your child and ask your doctor about... For years and years, and now the FDA reluctantly step in once they see children dying and say it doesn't work.

Yes and no. It means that it helped people in clinical trials, but that doesn't mean it will help everyone. It also means that its safe for use--doesn't have chemicals or other unhealthy/unsafe things in it.
