He is a great driver, but talladega is one wild track, all that speed, crashes...he was down there testing with the COT when all the drivers were there a few weeks back..We'll just have to see how he does....If he and JPM get in to it, they have had problems in the past in F1, that should interesting to see.. I'm looking forward to Jacques, but talladega, yikes, stay away from Smoke, he's not in the best of moods...

Go Dale Jr Go...

Jacques is a pro in his own field of racing but we all know from watching Nascar races Talladega is hard for even the top drivers .Jacques could not be only a risk for himself but also to the other drivers too by making this his starting race track ,I do not think the drives are angry but more like worried. The drivers in the chase do not want to have to worry about a 1st timer getting in the way .Waiting until after Homestead would have made a lot more sense. . Again Nascar Officials with their strange rulings. It is not the question of how many started in Talladega but how many strated there in the 4th race of the Chase???

A lot of drivers are angry because Talladega is a superspeedway and a lot of accidents happen there.

Most that aren't happy with the decision of letting Villenueve race his first Cup race at 'Dega, do acknowledge that he is a skilled driver.

They just don't want to deal with a rookie during the Chase and especially at an accident prone track like Talladega.

I don't understand why he's needs to start now rather than waiting until next season.

Drivers certainly won't be happy if he creates a huge wreck and takes out a good portion of the race next weekend, especially if some of those guys happen to be in the Chase.

Maybe NASCAR knows what they're doing this time around.

Jacques is a great driver no doubt about it, but Talladega is not the right place to start his Nascar career at. All day long cars are 2 & 3 wide. He need more seat time in stock car because stock car react totally different then a F1 car does. Charlotte, Chicago or Kansas would been a great to start. I understand why Bill Davis Racing want him in a COT car because if he going to run Nascar next year he need to know how then car handling & react but not at Talladega for his first race.

David Gilliland started his first race here last year but this year the stakes are alot higher and NASCAR kind of dug themself a hole but letting Gilliland start at this race last year. The drivers dont want the guy to start at Talladega because what if he makes some stupid rookie mistake and he hasnt even ran in Cup before and takes out a whole bunch of Chase drivers. That would be horrible and the stakes are higher and no one wants their Championship hopes and their race hopes deminished by some rookie driver. This is Talladega after all and someone is going to start the big one, and lets hopes its not the Rookie.

Talladega is one tough track to race on and with the CoT
cars it's going to be even harder. F1 in not NASCAR, the
cars are just so different. And all cup drivers should do
their A, B, C's first. Just because he can drive a F1 car
doesn't mean he can drive a CoT car.

Well, it's not that they don't want him coming to NASCAR or to the Nextel Cup it's just that Talladega is NOT the best place to run your FIRST cup race. It is known for the big one and having a lot of accidents in general. This race is going to be especially tricky with using the COT for the first time at a super speedway. The regulars don't even know how the racing is going to be let alone a driver in his very first Nextel Cup start.

Jeff Gordon's answer was that Talladega is not the right track to allow a first time driver to NASCAR's premier series. Guess we'll see come Sunday, huh?

It's too "pre-mature" It's like a pre-mature baby. A "Premie" it's not good. You need a certain amount of progression to turn into a professional when specializing in a certain "style" or "form" of racing. Peoples lives are on the line at 200 MPH. And especially being intoduced during a cup race. NASCAR needs to re-evaluate or get some one else to help make decisions within itself.
