I often ask if God can do something silly like duplicate himself, and I always get some Christians saying "no". As a proper Christian, wouldn't they believe God is omnipotent? Do they not see the problem here? I could accept "yes, but he won't" but some of them say "no". WTF? Is our school system really that bad?

batgirl: Yes...I'm not a robot. I sometimes make grammatical errors. Saying "no" when you mean "yes" is one Hell of a grammatical error though.

It isn't the schools system. It is the fact that people can't learn to think critically for themselves. They go to school and learn about science, but church tells them that good Christians who are going to heaven don't believe in scientific evidence. So, a conflict between evidence and faith is born. Those who want to be good Christians learn to filter out "evidence" that doesn't agree with their "faith."

Pretty soon, you have a person who can't think clearly because they have to run everything through their "faith filter" first.

Yeah, and Samuel said it is better to obey than sacrifice. Obedience must be pretty high up on God's to-do list for us. Must we always obey? Yes! Can we always obey? No! Not as long as we're stuck in these corrupt bodies with this sin nature. Amazingly, God will forgive us just for the asking. And He's saved us from eternal damnation just for trusting in Him. So where does works fit in? Well, we show our gratitude for what the Lord has done for us by doing good works for others. It's not a requirement like obedience. It's a thank you. It's a desire brought about by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. And it's a simple plan. All the Lord's plans are simple. It's we who complicate them.

Sometimes, people respond out of fear and do not even hear the question. At other times, the question is too offensive to give it serious thought. For the philosopher, these are important questions regardless of their premise. Without asking it is dificult to come to a thought out conclusion. Not all Christians are philosophers, so if you really want to ask questions like that and get a philosophical response then I suggest you post in the philosophy section. This is what I would do.

Can is the ability to do something.
Will is the choice and determination to either do or not do something.
Don't worry, there is no problem with my education, or my faith.
If you get objections to a portrayal of God duplicating himself as no, this is just a simple reference to God being unity and ONE. You will find that in the Abrahamic religions, God is one. This is a well known thing and is not a secret.
I myself would tell you for God to 'duplicate himself' is a logical ubsurdity for most of us.

It's not the school system. You can't bore a hole in someone's head and pour it in.

ALL groups, religious and atheist, make many mistakes in grammar, spelling, and syntax.

There are errors in your post here.

You made an error in your sentence stating, "As a proper Christian, wouldn't THEY believe God is omnipotent."
You ought to have used the pronoun HE or SHE instead of THEY.
Christian is singular, so the pronoun referring to Christian ought to be singular as well. Otherwise, you have switched verb tenses incorrectly.

When you criticize others for making errors, you had better make sure that your grammar and syntax are perfect.

I made a typographical error. I do apologize.

I also apologize for being snippy. I have no excuse other than that I sometimes get tired of the Christian bashing and the generalizing that we are all idiots.

God is omnipotent, all powerful, but there are things, by His nature, He cannot do. He cannot sin, He cannot lie, He cannot be unholy or unrighteous, He cannot create a being greater than Himself. He cannot do anything that violates His intrinsic character traits.

If God existed, he could not be omnipotent. That is a logically not possible. It is like saying that the universe is infinite.

Heh God could duplicate himself!
I wonder why he hasn't duplicated himself all over the universe.

"I can but I won't"
