Brake light switch.

Follow the brake pedal upwards (may have to remove a panel to see up). There's a switch that turns on the brake lights when you step on the brake pedal.

Typically it's a little futher than mid way up before the brake pedal exits the fire wall.

The switch is depressed when the brake is not being pushed down, and is unpressed, when you press on the brake pedal.

Either the switch is out of adjustment, or the switch is bad.

Either brake light switch or power or fuse. What model Nissan year and how many miles? If I knew I could tell what fuse and where to find it.

Yes. Did you check your car's owners' manual first?
