how could you tell you are not arm candy?

He said to other girls that we are dating instead of hanging out in front of me..

i feel weird..what is the reason to say that to others? try to show off or use me as arm candy?

Could also be he was trying to make them jeaous, give your friend a bone...... your not dating him....
