I used to dislike dogs, too. I tried to avoid them most of the time. I don't what you can do to like dogs. Maybe try reading some books that shed a positive light on dogs, DOG HEROES is a good one for that. And try not to take anything the dog does personally. He doesn't chew stuff up or jump on people to be mean. He's just trying to be friendly and figure out his world. Try reading some other material on dogs.

Reading positive materials about dogs and dog care books helped me. So did getting my own dog. (not anyone Else's in my family, he's just mine)

So don't let anyone tell you you're either a dog person or your not. A person can develop a love for dogs. I did.

Remember, there are therapy dogs, guide dogs, rescue dogs, and lots of other good dogs out there!

You've had the dog for 5 months and you still don't like it?

Why don't you like it? What's the problem? Is it that you don't like how it behaves? Does it need training? Do you not like that it licks?

There has to be something. Normally with puppies, people fall in love. If you haven't, I'm not sure what to tell you.

You and your family made a committment to this pup so you are going to have to learn to get along with it. Maybe if YOU took the puppy to training, you could bond with it.

Mutual respect goes a long way. Take the dog to an obedience class so it will be well behaved when it is as big as a full grown rott and still has the energy of a lab pup. Establish yourself as boss and set boundaries for the dog. It's not hard to live with a well-behaved dog.

Going into proper obedience classes for training with your puppy is a good way to develop a bond with your dog.

The other advantage is that if you take the time and effort to properly train your dog, it will be a good well mannered pet, and at the very least, you can learn to live with that. A dog with the potential to become very large really should have proper training before it gets full grown.

I do think it was very unfair of you to take the pup home, given your feelings towards dogs. I also find it really odd that you still have no bond with, at least, this one dog, after 5 months of care.
All I can say is 'don't force it'. Some people are dog lovers. Other people are happy to live with dog lovers - doesn't mean they are one.

Just remember that puppy is going to grow up and be the best friend you could ever have. Look into the pups eyes and learn how to love it.

You should've never agreed to take the dog in if you didnt like dogs. This is a commitment that you have made for the rest of that dog's life, and unfortunately, since you don't like dogs, the poor thing will probably end up in a shelter.

You cannot force yourself to like dogs, you either do or you don't. I advise you to find a good home for that dog before it is too late.

ADDED: What do you need to understand? He is a dog... they dont think like we do obviously.

I would say to spend time with it and i know this is gonna sound cheesy but look into its eyes and think about what would have happened to it if you hadn't saved it. Hee hee
