(Deuteronomy 21:10-14 NAB)
"When you go out to war against your enemies and the LORD, your God, delivers them into your hand, so that you take captives, if you see a comely woman among the captives and become so enamored of her that you wish to have her as wife, you may take her home to your house. But before she may live there, she must shave her head and pare her nails and lay aside her captive's garb. After she has mourned her father and mother for a full month, you may have relations with her, and you shall be her husband and she shall be your wife. However, if later on you lose your liking for her, you shall give her her freedom, if she wishes it; but you shall not sell her or enslave her, since she was married to you under compulsion."

Luke 18
The Parable of the Persistent Widow
1 Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. 2 He said: "In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared about men. 3 And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, 'Grant me justice against my adversary.'
4 "For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, 'Even though I don't fear God or care about men, 5 yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won't eventually wear me out with her coming!' "
6 And the Lord said, "Listen to what the unjust judge says. 7 And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? 8 I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?"
Merciful!

Well in old testament times, war was pretty hard on the women of the losing side. Actually it was hard on anybody taken as captives including children. Warfare was an extremely ugly thing especially in ancient times. Many people became slaves so this passage, if anything, is advocating fair play since it is stating not to sell her or enslave her as the woman was taken against her will (she was married to you under compulsion).
I think a lot of the old testament is actually a set of rules and regulations based on the time it was written. There are even rules for the proper things to eat as some foods were considered unclean (shell fish if not stored and prepared properly could make you pretty sick and there was no refridgeration in those days). Pork was considered unclean and this is another food that even today we handle with care.
No, I don't believe that God disrespects women, it is just that man often disrespects man and a set of guidelines had to be written to keep it as civilised as possible.

This is a classic case of the scripture being taken out of context or too literally. You need to understand the historical context of the time as well. 1Cor.14:34-35 Let your women keep silence in the churches Let me ask you a question. Do you converse with your husband, children, others in church before or after service? Do women at your church sing in the choir? I find it absolutely hard to believe that you and other women in your church "keep silent" say nothing in church ever at all. Conversing, singing in the choir, talking to kids in the nursery, given announcements, etc which would be opposite of keeping silent. You would virtually have to be a monk who took a vow of silence to not converse at all. Obviously, that's not what this verse meant. This verse and many others in the Bible need to be "rightly divided" and you have not done that according to your question. (2 Timothy 2:15).

Yes, God does respect the women. If you look in Ephesians 5 it tells how husbands are suppose to love their wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself to die for it. vs. 28 "So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife, loves himself." Proverbs 31:10 says " For who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies." God would not speak of women having such worth if he did not respect them .

I wonder if he hates his followers... Marrying an unwilling woman is a good way to get one BIG step closer to the grave. Especially if you've killed everyone she loves. People with nothing left to loose and all.

The bible is very complicated. You can't just read one verse and get how God works. You need to read more of the bible and then you can decide for yourself what you think. But I believe yes God loves us all.

When the bible was written it was an honor to be chosen for marraige. there was slavery, prostitution and marraige. No other choices for women at that time, no JC Penney for them to go get a job and support themselves. You didn't see the command on how to treat her respectfully concerning her mourning? Yes God respects women. BTW men had it no better they had to be ready to die in battle. All of them. Bloody battles.

I would have to say yes, since he chose a woman, Mary to bear His Son.
