When condition is too severe for total pelvic exenteration?

I know someone who went in for total pelvic exenteration - but the drs. said that her condition was too severe and decided not to proceed with the operation. What next???? Are there alternative treatments??? I feel desperate for information.

The disease has probably spread beyond the organs of the pelvis and the shock to her system could kill her on the operating table. From my understanding of the procedure, her situation sounds very grave.
