questions about god?

i am an athiest and i just cant see how people can beleive in something without solid povable facts. i dont mean to offend anyone, but i just think its ridiculus that you beleive in something you cant see unless (supposedly) your dead.

Let it go. Christians don't need proof, they're taught the doctrine of blind faith. Atheists need proof. Neither side is ever going to convince the other unless a person is already ready to change sides.

Don't worry, at least as an atheist you don't have to worry about how many people you convert to get your ticket punched to heaven!

We you say that the only proof we have is faith. Have you heard of the dead sea scrolls? They're ancient manuscripts of the bible. Some of them date back to 130BC before Christ was even born, and on those they have fulfilled prophesy that Christ would be born. So there's some proof. Also we have over 5000 manuscripts of the new testament of the bible. That's a lot! Theres less then 200 for shake spear I don't see how you can believe in anyone from ancient not believe in the bible. There's actually tons of proof if you look around. Go to a creation research institute. I guarantee you will have a different view on whether theres proof or not.

and even though you can't see God doesn't mean he's not there. Can you see air? No but it doesn't mean it's not there. That arguement it so old please get new ones. Before you start acusing people and their beliefs maybe you should research up on it. I would love to give you more reasons and evadince that there is a God, if your interested.

But you believe there are actual people out here responding to you, though you have not seen us? You believe unconsciously that the building you are in at the moment will not be capsizing in the next minute or so. You believe that people close to you love you though you cannot see or touch that either. Conceptually, faith is an inextricable, routine part of everyday life for all of us.

Christians experience God as real in the way you experience Love as a real thing. If you have a loved one, you can reduce this to Dawkin's explanations and say that your loved ones only "care" about you because they are organic machines trying to ensure survival of their offspring and that's ALL there is to it. Notice here that you have excluded the possibility of there being anything more to the story, that these machanisms are not physical manifestations of something more, like a design - this exclusion is itself a leap of faith. If you are unwilling to make a leap of faith you have to be agnostic. Which means you are unsure. If so, all good Christians are. The opposite of faith is not doubt, it's certainty!

The world is mysterious. It's even more mysterious when you are scientifically illiterate like most Americans. So people grasp onto the idea that there *must* be something higher, some higher meaning or purpose than just *this*. Perhaps a sunset or a beautiful animal or mountain lake will provoke the average person to believe wholeheartedly that there is a creator of these things. But the slightest look at biology and natural selection reveals a natural world full of deception and brutality, and no apparent purpose. Science knows how and why things evolved, people people don't want to learn or listen to this.

Life is difficult and painful. People need hope and they are willing to believe things without evidence, pretending to be confident when in reality they are not confident at all in the veracity of the things they desire to believe. When they have trouble beliving their faith, instead of challenging themselves and the faith, they do things in order to force themselves to continue beliving. They struggle to find ways to believe, ways to rationalize the beliefs instead of testing those beliefs against evidence and rationality. This is why people believe, and it is why faith is so dangerous. Faith has no interest in evidence or debate.

You make a valid point but let me ask you this; Do you believe in the hypothesis of evolution? By evolution I do not mean horizontal change within each species because that is not true evolution. I mean vertical change into higher and greater complexity. I mean life accidentally evolving from non-life using natural means over billions of years. I mean molecules-to-man evolution. If so, you believe in something which has absolutely no scientific evidence to support it. If one was to truly study the evidence of operational, observable science then it would be inevitable for that person to realize that true science supports special creation and the Genesis Flood, not evolution. This MUST be accepted by faith as no one was around when everything began and operational science can not prove or disprove the past. Therefore with your own words you have condemned yourself because you believe in something without any solid, provable facts.

I have been miraculously healed by God two separate times and He has audibly spoken to me once. As for my healing,doctors in no way intervened and I am healed. There are many, many ways that God can and will show Himself to you but YOU have to start with an open mind. The Bible very clearly states that to those who seek, they'll find, to those who knock the door shall be opened. Have you ever searched and/or knocked? Honestly? I have been a Christian for more than 35 years and yes my parents were and my grandparents were as well, but that won't mean a hill of beans when I stand before God and it doesn't matter how many times I've 'gotten my ticket punched' because that won't get me into Heaven either. The ONLY way is through belief and ACCEPTANCE of what Jesus Christ did for you on the cross of Calvary =)

Everyone's definition of god is different...

Have you every cleaned the stuff out from under your nails? Why is that not in the realm of possibility that our whole "universe" is not just the dirty build-up under someone's fingernails...a someone that has the ability to wipe us out without a second thought.

I believe that there is something out there...I do not have to "see" to believe, I can feel to believe.

I am not trying to be rude, and maybe it is my ignorance in definition, but I am always looking for answers. As an Athiest, have you given up searching or did you choose not to search in the first place?

God gave us some provable facts, the biggest being fullfilled prophecy. 4/5 of Prophecies in the OT have already been fullfilled. www.hallindsey.org. Many thousands, millions perhaps have experienced God's power, heard his voice, some have even seen him. I know the big question is why doesn't he show himself to everyone? The thing is by the time he does it may be too late. The reason God can Justify his Judgement is that we are all having faith in something, right now at this moment. Everyone has to weigh it out for themselves. I choose God because I see evidence of his glory everywhere and I know man and the works of his hands is not worth worshipping as impressive as it may be sometimes.

How about this new scientific fact. The hygiene laws in the book of Leviticus was written by someone with a working knowledge of the spread of disease through microscopic organisms,(the germ theory) 3500 years before humans invented the microscope. Someone or something other then us knew this in order to write this. So who was it? Santa Clause?

I am a Christian and I can't see how anyone can believe we came from an ape or something. There is a Creator. So all us, all those stars out there, all the universes out there and you still believe in no creator, how? Are you one of those people that wouldn't believe if you saw it. You need to ask yourself that question? Let me give you some things to ponder, Isreal, a nation no bigger than rhode island. Every middle eastern country in the world wants it. It has no major oil supply, why would iran and iraq and all those other countries want it. Think about, It is said that the Queen of England one time ask a famous preacher prove to me that there is a God, the preacher simply stated these words, the jews. Jewish tradition says that God himself stood over the top of what is now Jerusalem when he created the earth. Its Possible. Why would hitler want to wipe out a race of people, of course hitler was white and middle eastern people do have more of a color to their skin but why?? Why was Stalin just as bad as hitler for wanting to wipe out the Jews?? When you start trying to answer all these whys you have to come to the conclusion there has to be a supernatural or divine order to things. Who put sun in orbit, who put moon out at night?? Now scientists have theories, or excuse me they call them facts, I can remember when scientists said a diamond was a lump of coal and took a million years to make. Now you can make one in about 3 weeks with some carbon or something and some pressure. The further scientists see out into space the more they see. I guess those big bangs just kept happening everywhere. The fact is the Bible is truth, I believe down in your heart you know that. Jesus died for you on a cross to save your soul from hell. He loves Loves. This is Gods earth and we live by the Bible or we pay the consequences. Its that simple. Jesus paid our sin debt on the cross at calvery, He arose the third day and will give his free gift of salvation to anyone who will believe, here is a sinners prayer, if you pray this believing you can start a whole new life with Jesus, Dear Jesus, I know and confess that I am sinner in need of salvation. I believe you died on a cross at calvery and arose from the grave to wash away my sins, I ask you right now to come into my heart and save me, I pray this Prayer believing in the name of Jesus Amen.
