Capitol One was suppossed to cancel my account, I paid it off then called again to cancel my account. A few days later they added a charge for Credit Inform! I called Capitol One and they told me that I had to cancel my account with Credit Inform too! Credit inform says that it is in Capitol Ones' hands. How do I cancel my account and get this fee for $5.99 waived?

They won't let me cancel for one. If I cancel my credit account there is nothing to inform about-the account will never reach zero if one is still posting the charge to the other!

Call Capitol One and tell them you dispute the charge and you never authorized the transaction. When it is removed, call and cancel the card. If it was me however, I would take the most direct route, and would just pay the 5.99 online, and then call and cancel the card. Good luck.

With ANY recurring charge, even if it is affiliated with the bank or card you need to call that company (ie Credit Inform) and cancel your account/service

Credit Inform customer service 866-226-3745
Mon-Fri 8am-11pm eastern time
Sat 9am-6m eastern

ask for a credit to your account, get a cancellation number

it is possible you won't get a credit (it is YOUR reponsibility to cancel any services) if you don't make sure you get and keep the cancellation number, and pay the $5.99 before the next due date

consumer complaint dept is not going to help you with something that is your fault/responsibility

disputing a charge you agreed to when you signed up for won't work either and your dispute will be denied

writing a letter with your cut up card doesn't do anything to help you or stop the recurring charge

I don't understand your question. First you say that you cancelled the account AFTER you paid off all current debts, then you ask how to cancel it? Did you cancel it or not??? Was it before or after the Credit Inform was added? (I don't see how it could be "after", but I'm *that* confused by your question!) If it was before, then your acct isn't cancelled! If it's after, then it's a charge made to a cancelled account, and you aren't responsible for it! (nor should they have added it to your acct, but that's a different story!)

Regardless, it is becoming a common practice for credit card companies - - legit and otherwise - - to charge such things to consumer's bills without telling them. Sometimes, it's a simple matter of you or the agent misinterpreting each other (if I can't understand a person with a heavy foreign accent - - which is happening more frequently! - - I politely ask for someone else, or I hang-up (again, politely) and try again). It is very important that you check each and every item in your online or postal credit card bill; I've caught a few unrequested charges over the years!

Usually, a call to the credit card's toll-free number fixes it. Since they, presumably, initiated the "Credit Inform" charge, it is up to them to clear it. Ask to speak with a supervisor, not whoever answers the phone. Tell them that the charge was not authorized by you, and that you demand that it be taken off the account and to reverse the charge, and that you are not calling "Credit Inform" or anyone else.

For future reference, rather than calling the credit card company to cancel the card, it is easier to just cut the card into pieces and throw it out! Of course, that won't get it off your credit report, assuming that's necessary for you (not to mention that it won't help if you have outstanding charges on that card!). Even if you "properly" cancel the card, it will stay on your report for years, so it makes little difference to you (credit card companies hate spending money on such accounts, though! I say, TOUGH!). If you're concerned about other creditors, it is up to the prospective creditor(s) to see the inactivity of a given card, and either ask you about it or presume that you simply stopped using it.

If your county has a Consumer Complaint department, give them the info and let them handle it. They will get the issue resolved faster than you staying entrapped in a Catch 22.

Write them a letter and keep a copy of it. Enclose your cut-up credit card, and that should do it.
