Unfortunately there's really not much that you can do. A person has to WANT to quit drinking, smoking, eating, whatever before they do. My best friend died when she was 29 from alcoholism. We did the whole intervention thing, she went to rehab and then she went right back to drinking. They give you med's in rehab to help you with withdrawls, once your out alot of people find the anti-depressant Welbutran very helpful and Valium is also effective (it's an addiction trade off but valium won't kill you if taken as prescribed).I wish you and your friend the best of luck, I hope that he will be able to stop or at least control his drinking so that you can have life long friendship that I always thought I would have but was cut way too short.

I stopped after got DUI..tell him to stop before he goes to jail..and get's pulled over ..
'
that woke me up to reality real fast..
or take him to jail tour..to scare him where he will be if he does not stop or she..
call it a control experiment..
your being a good friend..if you help him NOW..not when his in jail or in grave..
so do something now..and show him/her HOW much you care?

You can't. All you can do is be supportive no matter what. When HE is ready, then you need to be by his side to help him through it.

His choice. Just walk away, and tell him why. If HE want's to stop, he will. Otherwise, to hell with him.
