i have this lunatic in town that is out to get me but he is very smart, and knows the system. he yells at me in middle of busy streets, he calls my house in middle of the night, he threw a can of paint on my car, and twice in middle of the night he smashed the front window of my house. he always runs away before we can catch him, but sometimes he calls to threaten before he strikes. we have reported everything to the police but as he is smart he knows not to get caught or do anything too extreme. how can i stop this guy? i don't have the time and money to waste with the legal system, and anyways they will not be able to do to much based on the nature of the crimes. this guy does not have a car and lives in a apartment so it is hard to do something back without getting caught, (i don't want to be arrested )or even hire someone to do something because he will know that i hired him.

does your telephone have an answering machine with a date and timer? That, alone, on tape, would be enough to get the restraining order. After you get the order, go to court and explain all the things he is doing. You say he is out to get you......so, you have an idea as to why, I take it. Be prepared to explain that to the Court, as well.
I consider it very extreme to smash your window.......do you home owner's insurance? Let the insurance company catch him. Throwing paint on your CAR? Do you have car insurance? Let the insurance company go after him. Make a claim, everytime................keep the dates, times, etc. all in order in your home, where you can grab it and show police or investigators from the insurance companies.

Report it everytime it happens. Keep a camera rolling when you suspect he will come around. Hire a private detective to document on him.
Turn the tables... have people start following him and spook him a bit.
He sounds like a coward.
I bet it wouldnt take much to scare the begeezus out of him.

Hire a big big big body gaurd. (Check your local bar and offer the guy some money to put this guy on notice.)
Have him tell the guy that there will be 'No more involving the police, that the next time I get a report that you are doing stupid s**t, I'm gonna handle it. And you won't like how I handle it. Make a move, come on, give me an excuse to wipe the floor with ya.'
Sometimes people just need to be put in their place and flushed. :o)

Get caller id for your phone. Don't delete the information on when he calls but use it as evidence for police. Place inexpensive cameras around the house perimeter, and also motion sensing lights. Swear out an order of protection against him, it won't stop him but you have more of a chance to get him arrested if he acts up. Place a "no trespassing" sign on your property, if he trespasses, again you have more leverage to arrest him. Try and change your daily routine and habits to throw him off. If all fails you can have a "friend" pay him a visit. He can believe that you are responsible all he wants. He needs to prove it. Good luck.

Call the police and have him charged - the telephone company will provide records of the phone calls for prosecution.
Throwing paint on your car is vandelism

In this day of modern technology - I STRONGLY suggest investing in a digital camera - video camer and cell phone that takes video and photos (for those yelling in the street incendents)

set up a trap or something that causes a lot of noise, that way if he comes in the middle of the night, everyone will hear it and someone is bound to call the cops. or hide somewhere and when you do catch him, beat the living hell out of him!

You need to be brave and confront this person.
Your running away in fear gives him power to continue.
Each time you see this person you need to have the courage to walk outside, walk over to him, and keep asking him why he is bugging you. And you need to do this every time. When this person sees you are no longer afraid, he may stop.
It's always difficult to deal with anybody who is unreasonable. But the best way is to be strong, stand up, and confront them and show them you are no longer afraid.
