It's much more safer than WIndows, and it's security model is very resistant to viruses. Try to find an antivirus product for linux! That should prove how safe it really is!

Linux is safe to use. You CAN get viruses, although there are very few (especially when compared to Windows) that are written to exploit Linux systems.

linux is very safe compared to windows but i would run the 'live cd' first which lets you play around with it so you can see what linux is like before you install it full, if you can i would dual boot. But linux is the a good move

I've been using it for over 10 years and have never gotten a virus (knock on wood), Linux isn't as dumbed down as M$ so it's much more difficult to do harm with a virus.

just as with windows, a simple default linux install will NOT be safe... as with ALL operating systems, protection must be used to prevent malware.

avg free is both for windows and linux .. its free and it works

if your uncomfortable with linux, i highly suggest you install vmware workstation and load a virtual linux os onto your pc to become familiar with it (poor video driver support dont expect to game on a virtual machine its for learning purposes only)

trust me its very safe I have been putting it through the ringer and windows would have been dead long ago with the surfing I do
