They don't, they actually just hide in one spot and wait for you to come near them then jump you, then tell other people that they sneaked up on you without your noticing, the lying b@stards! : P

Ninja's, historically, have been glorified to a great extent. They were actually very little in the way of true assassins. Most ninja were actually employed by as retainers and would carry out normal duties such as gardening. When an attempt would be made on their master's life, their tools doubled as very effective weapons; especially when nobody would be expecting to be dispatched by a house-keeper.

Hi there

The set of techniques you are referring to comes under the term Go ton no Jutsu. It consists of using the elements such as earth, fire, water and metal to aid your escape. Its not really practiced by modern day students as it has very little practical use today. There are also different methods of walking called aruki such as yoko aruki side ways walking which is still practiced and is part of the kata from koto ryu and togakure ryu. Check out the Bujinkan and Jinenkan arts for more information.

Best wishes

A real ninja wouldn't tell you. He/she would then be out of work.
