i.e. I want to watch movies from computer's hard disk. Network = 802.11g. Laptop would be on a table and projector attached to ceiling.

Stick with wired or if possible move to "n".
"g" is good enough for Divx movies (6-10 Mbits/s), but not for full-hd (15-19 Mbit/s).

WIRED ever loose a call on you cell phone need I say more. Wireless must accept interference by law and can never be hi-fi because of signal compression in addition to induced distortion.
computer - if these are downloaded camera shots bad rips etc. won't matter much but from dvd or hd dvd go wired.
