My hubby drug home a pregnant hairless several weeks back. The person who owned her didn't want her because she had ran off in season rather than mating with the other crested. Anyway, she had her pups, I had her shots and found a home for her. I have given away three pups so far. One of the hairless puppies that is left is cryptorchid. I have someone who wants him, which would be fine, but I want to make sure he is neutered if necessary due to the defect.

My question is--
Is anyone familiar with this breed? How late can the gonads descend? These puppies are almost eight weeks old. Is it possible they will still descend or not? I don't want to give him away to a stranger just incase they aren't a person who would care for him correctly due to the cryptorchidism. I won't keep him or any of them myself. But I can't just give him to someone who won't care for him. Dr says they might still come down? opinions?

I've had dog's testes not drop until 10 weeks (although that's really unusual).

Since the pup is being sold as a pet, simply require they neuter him. A vet should have no issues with neutering him.

For a pet puppy this really is a non-issue.

He needs to be neutered anyway!!!! Doesn't matter if they descend or not!!!!! Even a pup with slow to descend testicles would be eliminated from any breeding program in my house.
But even if they dropped tomorrow, what would be a valid reason for the person to not alter this dog......clearly not of breeding quality??????
A crtpyorchid neuter will cost more, so the people should be ready for the....they could take the pup to their vet and get an estimate and then let you know if they can afford it. If not, no deal.
There is no reason they should not be told that this pup gets neutered anyway.
Have either one of the testicles come down????

The vet is correct he is still very young and chances are good they will drop. My cresteds didn't drop totally until he was six months old. I wouldn't worry quite yet. I applaud you and your husband for taking in these little angels, Bless You. By the sounds of it you will find the right home for him !!!
