Just wondering if I can connect the camcorder to the computer through FireWire ?

Most Likely, If you are running windows XP then just try and plug it in. Put the firewire into the jack and then turn your camera on. If XP sees your camcorder then it will ask you how you want to edit it. You might even be able to use the Windows Movie Maker Program that comes on most windows XP systems. If it doesn't work don't worry it wont hurt your camera or computer and there are lots of cheap to very expensive software that you can get to edit with that use firewire.

no, you cannot edit the source tape directly. you can download to the computer, edit a program, and then the computer can use the camcorder to record the finished product feeding back the firewire. You cannot do "insert" or "assemble" tape edits like the old deck to deck days unless you buy the broadcast style DV decks.
