Men are still seen as the major breadwinner for a family. If he is still at home with his mother people tend to think that he is either dumb, unintelligent, lazy, or a combination of the three. (Not always true) Women can live with their mom and nobody makes a big deal. Why? I think it goes back to the early 1900's to the 1960's. Back then if a woman didn't marry she was supposed to live with her parents because she couldn't be out in the world alone!
Personally I think you shouldn't still live with your parents once you have finished college. Hope this answers your question! ;)

In "traditional" living men are supposed to be responsible and live on there own with their wives. Welcome to 2007 traditional living is officially out! It is OK for a man to live their parents as adults. The important thing about this and the way that society See's this is that they should at least be responsible have a job and be making an effort

I think it has something to do with the way our society sets different standards for men and women. From the time we're born, women are "catered" to and put on a higher pedestal than men. Our parents are more protective of us because women are the "helpless" sex. Men are expected to be independent and successful in our society. They are expected to be risk-takers and go-getters more than are women. When a woman lives at home with her parents, people may see her as needing protection or being "smart" with her money, but when men live at home with their parents, people think they're unsuccessful, lacking financial stability, and immature. It's so dumb.

I think it stems from the men being the natural born "providers" so to speak. I kind of feel the same way. We feel that as women it is kind of a protective place to live when with our parents, but for men we think they can't assimilate to the "real" world or are just a loser... that is a really good question..

It all works down to age ... are you talking young women, 18 to 23. Not a big deal. Much older than that, and it's just as weird for women to be living at home, too.

Men are seen as tough and can handle life ,so don`t need mum around while girls are looked at as soft and needing mum. It is sexual stereotyping but it is how society sees the sexes
The fact is that some prefer to stay at home for finances etc

A family is a family no matter what it consists of or the ages of its participants. The preference of living with ones Mother is a personal one (for whatever the reason) and those on the outside looking in should mind their own business. God Bless.

Because he is a man and not a woman. women traditionaly did not leave their parents home until they got married. Men on the other had were expected to get out there and make a life and a career for themselves so that they can be ready to marry and have kids and raise a family and become a stable part of society's foundation.
Men staying home with mamma, are not getting established in the world on their own, have not taken the responsibility for their own lives and lack the necessary shall we say "balls" to get out there on their own in the world.

Well, women live with mom and dad to keep safe. The streets are dangerous out there for women who live alone. Men, however, are supposed to be able to handle themselves on their own, so if they are still living with mommy, they haven't grown up.
