Protein and carbohydrates. The carbs give you the initial start and the protein gives the staying power. I eat my version of a grilled cheese sandwich for breakfast - two fried white corn tortillas with shredded cheese. Along with a cup of hot tea and my choice of fruit keeps me going until lunch.

Porridge is meant to be good brain food, and the energy is released slowly. Fish is meant to be the other food good for the brain so you could always have kippers for breakfast.

Eggs, oatmeal, blueberries, spinach (with eggs), a few almonds, berries, pomegranite, cinnamon, green tea. A great book about foods and brainpower is the perricone promise. I followed those guidelines and they were great. My fave power breakfast was green tea with 1/4 cup of oatmeal with chopped almonds, cinnamon, and a handful of bluberries. Gave me great energy.
