Absolutely! You can go to my profile and see my past responses on this subject. An infidel "KAFIR" in Arabic is someone who is not a Muslim. Depending on with whom you speak pertaining to this matter, a Shia might consider a Sunni and infidel and vise versa. At any rate, if you are not of the same religious beliefs of the Muslim addressing you at the time, you are an infidel and deserve death. That is why they are killing each other in Iraq.

You actually have 2 questions (killing of infidel's & meaning of an indidel)

1) The world infidel:
The infidel according to Islam is the non Muslim. According to Christianity it's the non Christains. Both Christians & Muslims call an infidal other names, which pretty much means the same thing. People Accuse each other of hatred and other stuff and deny they themselves are the same, even if they really are.

2) Killing an infidel:
Killing is only permitted as an act of defense. It could be defending one's family, the nation, the faith against those who fight and kill Muslims becaue they are Muslims.

3) Little comment:
Unfortunatly Muslims today live a dark age (just like the Christians in the middle ages). Many Muslims today don't understand their faith and don't realize they're doing bad things agaisnt their faith and against their people!

Infidel just means athiest if you look at the definition of the word. No Islam doesn't promote killing Non Muslims. That verse about killing infidels only applied to the people of Prophet Muhammad's(PBUH*) lifetime when the pagans of Arabia were trying to kill Muhammad(PBUH*) day and night. Murder in any form except for a just cause is not allowed in Islam.

No, it doesn't. When people quote the Qoran as ordering Muslims to kill unbelievers, they are taking that line entirely out of context. The text describes the war between the cities of Mecca and Medina. Mohammed is simply defining the rules of engagement, as given to him by Allah, for this war. To say that one line is justification to kill everyone who is not a muslim is like saying the Bible justifies the existance and activities of the KKK. It doesn't, unless you greatly twist its intended meaning.

Infidel is a non-muslim.

Unless you are sunni and the other muslim is shiite. Then the shiite is an infidel. Or vice-cersa.

Like all religions, islam lets people interpret scriptures that are vague and ambiguous any way they wish. Fatwahs are more important than scriptures, demonstrating the flaw in religion.

An omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent god would have delivered an unambiguous scripture that all humans could understand without calling on imams, mullahs, priests, pastors, rabbis, or televangelists for interpretations.

The killing of Infidels is a highly controversial subject within the Islamic world. Some claim that this means the execution of all non-muslims, while others claim that it simply means a "spiritual warefare" against those who are non-muslim or mutman (non-muslims who will enter paradise).

The very definition of Inifdel is argued hotly, some claiming its meaning to be "any non-muslim" while other beleive it to mean "any person who is against religion in general".

As far as I know, it's only permissible to kill somebody during war, to defend yourself or your community from an agressor.

It's very clear that in Islam teachings, every human has the right to believe what they want and there is no compulsion in religion. To each his/her own.

This from "The Holy Qu'Ran', The Cow 2.190-191

[2.190]And fight in the way of Allah with those who fight with you, and do not exceed the limits, surely Allah does not love those who exceed the limits.
[2.191] And kill them wherever you find them, and drive them out from whence they drove you out, and persecution is severer than slaughter, and do not fight with them at the Sacred Mosque until they fight with you in it, but if they do fight you, then slay them; such is the recompense of the unbelievers.

One would infer from this passage that Islam's followers are told to kill unbelievers.

As for definitions, an 'infidel' is a person who does not believe in your particular religion, denomination or religious tradition.

Infidels defined as untrue or immorals or impurities.
If they are labeling Christians and other faiths as infidels and calling for them to be killed, I think other faiths should be calling for Muslim men as polygamous to be killed too. Polygamy to be consider it moral in a civilised society is same thing as inhuman as animals do.
