I have had to do this once when I simply had so many great answers, I felt is should be put to a vote. Actually, every answer was a winner. If the question is something you fell strongly about, and you have some you know you do not agree with, make the choice. My "vote" question was a cry for help with a simple recipe for my daughter who was cooking for her fiance's friend for the first time. She was upset that I don't go by recipes for the most part. It actually should be our official cookbook, the recipes were so great.

I am lazy, so I usually let the voters do it. The problem is that it doesn't work out too well. Usually the best answer will be decided by 1 vote, and that 1 vote was a person voting for their own answer. So sometimes if you let the "voters" decide, then you will end up having some really dumb answers to your questions. The only good thing is that after a question is resolved people only look at it once every 10 years. So don't worry about it too much.

ive never thot of it like that b4. ive always looked @ it as either u choose what u think is best, or some of the voters mite not b fair either. the fair best answer may not b chosen whether u choose it or whether the voters choose it. (sometimes i see some selfishly chosen answers, that are DEFINITELY not the best.-i myself am a "fair freak" & so have not been satisfied w/ some of the votes i won best answer from. a little while ago, i won a few votes but i wasnt satisfied bcuz in my opinion youd hafta be blind 2 take my answer over anothers. it was pretty dang obvious that the other answer was way better than mine.) besides, ive heard that some ppl only choose the answer they wanna hear, but @ the same time, voters mite only choose a certain answer 2 get some stupid pt.s. i dont think its guaranteed 2 b "fair" either way.
im not even trying 2b friends w/ any1, im just trying 2 learn.

You should always pick a best answer. If you just leave it up to others voting, there's a chance it will never get voted on, and thus the people who answered don't have a chance of getting more than 2 points for the time they put in.

I always pick my own. Not for the points actually. But because if people take the time to answer my questions then it's only fair that I take the time to read them and pick the best one.

it depends on the question
if it is a direct question looking for a specific answer ... then I pick the one that is the best
is it straight to the point , have some links , polite and respectful etc ...
at times though , if it is a general question or a fun question or if I feel I would have trouble choosing an answer fairly
I will let it go to a vote

If 3 points makes a difference in a friendship, what you have is not a friendship. It is an acquaintanceship, and not a very worthwhile one at that. Pick your own answer.

Why should picking a best answer affect a friendship?
I personally always like to pick a best answer for the questions that I ask because I like to acknowledge those who put thought and consideration into answering my question.

Choose your own best answer. Voters have no way of knowing who answered your question best; you're the one who asked, you alone know what kind of answer you needed.
